All children can learn. If a child is not learning, it is our responsibility to change our instruction to meet the child’s needs. My job as a leader is to ensure that educators have the support they need in order to help students to be successful.
High stakes tests are only one way to check in on a child’s success. More importantly to me, is a child’s social/emotional well-being. Humans who are in a state of crisis or stress are not able to learn or function to the best of their ability. Given that educators often spend more time with students than any other caring adult, it behooves us to learn how to support children’s mental health and put supports in place to help each child achieve and succeed, socially, emotionally and academically.
